The maritime fishing sector faces growing challenges: resource management, regulatory changes, product promotion, and economic competitiveness. To meet these challenges collectively, professionals need a strong structure that defends their interests and supports them day to day.

This is precisely the purpose of FROM Nord — the Northern Regional Fund for the Organisation of the Fish Market (Fonds Régional d’Organisation du Marché du poisson du Nord). Created to bring together producers along the Northern maritime coast, this non-cooperative producer organisation has established itself as a key player in professional fishing in the region. Its goal: to ensure the rational practice of fishing and to improve the sales conditions for its members’ production.

Essential missions for the industry

FROM Nord works across several strategic areas to support its members and the industry as a whole:

  • Quota management: supporting members in managing and optimising their fishing quotas
  • Product promotion: promoting and showcasing seafood from local fishing
  • Defending interests: representing and defending fishermen’s interests before regional, national, and European bodies
  • Participation in scientific projects: getting involved in innovative research projects for a better understanding of marine resources and sustainable fishing practices

A strong commitment to sustainability

FROM Nord does more than manage the day-to-day affairs of its members — it actively works for the future of fishing. Among its concrete actions:

  • Support for obtaining sustainable fishing certifications such as the MSC label, which has benefited Normandy fishermen for the king scallop (coquille Saint-Jacques) of the Bay of Seine
  • Participation in innovative environmental projects such as POLUX, dedicated to reducing the impact of fishing gear on marine ecosystems
  • Contribution to the reopening of fisheries, such as the sardine fishery in the Bay of Seine, after years of closure to allow stocks to recover

FROM Nord benefits from the support of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the European Union through the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF). This institutional recognition reflects the organisation’s seriousness and legitimacy within the French maritime landscape.
